I bought a book called Love, Rosie last week and it turns out it a trade paperback edition of Rosie Dunne, not the sequel I thought it was! How annoying that I missed the tiny letters at the bottom of the front cover that said "previously published as..." I skimmed through it again and still found it enjoyable - there is something about rading epistalotory novels that makes me feel like I am peeking into someone's private life.
Love Rosie (or, Rosie Dunn) is a love story about childhood friends, almost sweethearts, Rosie and Alex who grow up together passing notes in class as children, sneaking out as teens, and forever getting in trouble together in Dublin. Alex finds romance before Rosie, and then when Alex's dad gets transferred to Boston, he is unable to get home for a final school dance, and Rosie gets first drunk, then pregnant.
The book chronicles her single motherhood and career adventures, with the underlying thread being the correspondence that continues between the two friends, who, of course, are actually in love with one another. Neither will admit it to the other though, and they are never single at the same time. 30+ years of weddings, births, divorces, and job changes follow, but the letters, emails and visits never stop.
If you like Meg Cabot's adult romances, you'll enjoy this UK-flavored romance about two people perfect for one another told with charm, humor and wit. More romantic than sexy, the carnal longings are tastefully kept to longings, and sex is insinuated rather than described.
