Rating:

Elaine Harrison has just moved to Annapolis with her parents, who are both medieval scholars on sabatical. Ellie spends most of her time floating in her pool until school starts. Avalon High is just like any other high school in America- there is Lance the jock, Jennifer the cheerleader, and Will the Quarterback and the Senior Class President. Things are not quite as they seem at Avalon High, however, and Ellie finds herself in the middle of a replaying of history- in which she has yet to realize her role. Another great work by Meg Cabot. The familiar tale of King Arthur with a modern twist. Quick, fast-paced read with interesting plot twists and turns. Lots of great description, but the character development is lacking her normal standards.

I just finished listening to this on CD. I am a big fan of Authurian legend, and I thought Cabot was clever with the names, but the telling of the tale lacked depth and subtlety. Ellie was too oblivious to be believable. The pacing was good, and the climatic final scene exciting, but predictable. The reading by Debra Wiseman was very well done. She sounds young and played clueless, anxious, romantic and exasperated convincingly. I'm not sure I would have given this book 3 stars, let alone four.
