Colby Blanchard seems to have everything going for her.  She's a blonde cheerleader, a straight A student, and if she can get Aidan Reynolds to be her date, she is certain to be named Homecoming Queen.  Her problems start when she is stood up by Aidan after a football game and has to walk home through the woods alone.  In the woods she is assaulted by the Eastside Attacker who leaves her to a fate worse than death -- undeath.  Her eyes turn yellow, her skin gets pale, and she must drink blood to survive -- only she doesn't have fangs because her canine teeth were removed when she had braces.  Her father, an orthodontist, makes a set of stainless steel fangs out of headgear for her so she won't starve to death, although she might die of embarrassment.  Just when it looks like things can't get any worse, they do.  A pair of Vampire Investigators inform Colby that she is an unlicensed, half-vampire created by a rogue vampire.  She needs to appear before the Vampire Council to defend her existence and faces execution if she fails to make her case.  Now she must catch her attacker with help from Thomas, a cute Vampire Investigator who may steal her heart -- or stake it!

This book is a nice offering of vampire chick lit for teens.  There's enough action and romance to keep readers interested, but avid readers of vamp lit would be better off reading Stephenie Meyer's Twilight (for the romance angle) or Scott Westerfeld's Peeps (for the horror angle).  A bit pricey for a paperback, but worth it.

 Three and a half stars.
