Bella Swan dreads her 18th birthday because she will be older than her love, Edward Cullen. Technically Edward is much older since he's a vampire, but her birthday is a reminder that Bella will keep aging while Edward will remain young forever. Bella wants Edward to turn her into a vampire as well, but he refuses claiming he doesn't want to condemn her soul. When his vampire family decides to move on before people in the town become suspicious of the family that never ages, Edward leaves Bella behind. Devastated, Bella must pick up the pieces of her life and try to move on.
The sequel isn't as good as the first book, probably because Edward isn't in it as much. However, Bella has the opportunity to grow into a strong character in her own right. The emotions portrayed are realistic and powerful. The mystery that develops after Edward leaves will eventually hook the reader. The open ending suggests there will be another book in the series. As long as fans aren't expecting it to be as good as the original, they won't be disappointed.
I agree. I really missed Edward in this one. I'll still eagerly await the
third book in the series, though.
Same here. I missed Edward as well -- I was also a bit disappointed that
there wasn't more of an explanation (okay, okay -- the explanation that I
WANTED) re: his angry voice during Bella's daredevil stunts.
Leila, I know exactly what you mean about the voice. I was confused when
that mystery was revealed because it was totally not what I expected (or
wanted to believe).
Yeah....i didnt like this much since it had less of Edward. What can i say,
they make a greatt couple. oh did you know they get engaged in the next
book.
