I wish I could review this in a way to give it justice... hmmmm ... well, it's a brilliant graphic novel ... and incredibly sad. It's odd to love a book that is so tormented but I can't help it! The illustrations are very simple & powerful. The story, heart-wrenching. Hornschemeier's text and illustrations quietly tell the story of a father and son struggling with the loss of their wife/mother. Surreal and real blur for both Paul and his father... both needing each other but falling tragically short in providing comfort and support. Though very different in style, it reminded me of how I felt after reading Blankets by Craig Thompson, another fantastic GN out there.
You'll want to tell your parents how much you love them after this book.
